This detailed carving of a Dowitcher is life size and plump, measuring 16" tip to tail. The carving has well define detailed incised primary feathers. Painted in oils and presenting an aged patina. Signature is carved in the bottom of the decoy. This work is in Atlantic White Cedar and the bill is carved from White Ash and inserted through the head held in place by a Walnut wedge. A magnificent Long Bill Curlew carved in Atlantic White Cedar with spit tail. This 8" long bill is carved from a single piece of White Ash and inserted through the head with a cut mortise and a Walnut wedge. The primaries are individually incised carved and the decoy has black German glass eyes. Measuring a full 22 inches from tip to tail with detailed painting in oils with a soft patina.

Curlew in a Feeding Position.  This shorebird is hand carved from Atlantic White  Cedar. It has a good amount of detail carving including a split tail and carved primary feathers. The bill is carved from a single piece of White Ash and inserted through the head and held in place with a cut mortise and Walnut wedge. Painted in oils with multiple layers of glaze for a soft feathering effect and hand rubbed to a warm patina. This is a large and classic shorebird measuring 19 inches tip to tail.
